Joe Kinnear Tried to Sign Midfielder Who Was Already a Newcastle United Player
Joe Kinnear has come in for a lot of stick since returning to Newcastle United as the club’s Director of Football and this latest incident is sure to heap more pressure on the former Magpies boss.
The Sunday People claim that on a recent scouting trip to watch a Capital One Cup tie betwee Birmingham City and Swansea City Kinnear is said to have approached the St Andrews’ claiming an interest in midfielder Shane Ferguson.
Officials at the Championship side initially thought Kinnear was joking but it transpired that the 66 year old was unaware that the young midfielder was on loan to Birmingham City from Newcastle United.
A Birmingham City City source told the Sunday People: “Ferguson had a particularly good game that night and Joe Kinnear told one of our officials he was interested in signing him.
“At first our guy thought he was joking but then he realised Kinnear did not know Ferguson was already a Newcastle player.”
