Gervinho and Chamakh close to moves
Gervinho is set to join Roma, where he will be reunited with former Lille coach Rudi Garcia, and the Ivory Coast forward had earlier told Gazzetta dello Sport it was his “dream” to make the switch.
Chamakh, meanwhile, is due to join newly promoted Crystal Palace,
having largely struggled at Arsenal since his 2010 move from Bordeaux.
Wenger, speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Galatasaray in the Emirates Cup on Sunday, said:
“Gervinho is on a good way to Roma, and Chamakh on a good way to Crystal Palace.”
Palace co-chairman Steve Parish told Sky Sports News on Sunday night that Chamakh, 29, was of interest.
"Marouane is obviously a fantastic player,” he said. “That’s one we’re keeping an eye on along with a number of others."
Wenger, meanwhile, was unsure whether his team might be able to reach
an agreement to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez before the Champions
League qualification play-off on August 20 or 21.
“Let's count first on what is here and if we can add something, we
will do, but it is very difficult to predict if something will be sorted
out before we play in the Champions League qualifier,” he said.
He maintains that the Gunners will always attempt to conduct their
transfer business in private, adding:
“We try to do it properly, but a
transfer is always an agreement between three parties and we have always
done that until now.”
