Misspelled footballers’ names
YOU wait ages for a footballer’s name to be spelt wrong... and then it happens
twice in a week.
Just five days after Everton presented new player Gerard Delofeu with his name
spelt incorrectly — Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse has had a pair of boots
made with the same problem!
So we thought we’d take advantage and have a look back at more blunders with
footballer’s names.
Papiss Cisse
THE Newcastle striker has been in the news for refusing the wear the club’s
new sponsor — and he will not have appreciated this Wong spelling of his
surname.
TAKING THE PAPISS ... Cisse transfers his anger from bookmakers to bootmakers
Gerard Deulofeu
WHEN you swap the Camp Nou for Goodison Park, you accept you are downgrading a
tad. Yet you still do not expect your name to be misspelled during your
grand unveiling.
NOU CLUB NOU NAME ... former Barca star's name Deuf-initely isn't spelt like that
Manuel Pellegrini
WHEN the club’s official website gets the new manager’s name wrong, it is
downright embarrassing. Hopefully a ‘Manuel Pelligrini’ out there did not
get too excited.
GRIN AND BEAR IT ... let's hope City definitely got the right man
Anderson
IT is the first game of the season, you hope you are still part of the club’s
plans — but this would not fill you with too much confidence.
NOT GR-EIGHT ... Anderson's name spelt wrong - then United lose the match!
Jack Wilshere
IF the young Arsenal midfielder fulfils his potential, we will be seeing his
name written regularly — so they had better learn the correct spelling.
SPELLBINDING ... ace Jack Wilshere's name spelt correctly on Arsenal shirt, left, and duff plaque
David Beckham
HE is the most famous footballer on the planet — yet even he fell victim to a
blatant spelling mistake.
It was the 1997 Charity Shield at Wembley and the first time he wore the
famous No7 shirt. Still, he came Beck stronger!
HEAVEN AND SPELL ... Becks' first game with the number 7
David Bentley
OK, so the “new David Beckham” did not quite fulfill his potential — but
surely the former Blackburn winger is more well known that this.
BENT OUT OF SHAPE ... former England winger is now a forgotten man
David Hasselhoff
ON a visit to Manchester, the Hoff met the Man City players and they gave him
a unique shirt as a memory.
Unique, because it ithe only item of clothing the Hollywood star will have
with his name spelt like this.
NO HASSEL ... just the incorrect spelling of the Hollywood star's name
Thomas Kuszczak
SERIAL offenders United are at it again — and this time it is the turn of
their former Polish goalkeeper.
His name is quite a mouthful and spelling mistakes can usually be excused...
but they got the easiest part wrong!
POLE AXE ... United spell another player's name incorrectly
