Leading the way, and by some distance, at the top of the Premier League's '100 club' (and the sole current member of the '200 club') chart is Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer who, from 1992 until his retirement in 2006, hit the back of the net a staggering 260 times in England's top flight.

The former England striker cut his teeth at Southampton, prior to the re-branding of the Premier League in 1992, before landing a £3.3 million move to Blackburn where he scored 112 league goals for the club, during which time he played a pivotal part as, under Kenny Dalglish's management, Rovers won the title in 1995.

Shearer would then be the subject of another British record transfer as he swapped Ewood Park for St James' Park for £15m and, during a 10-year spell on Tyneside, he would go on to cement his place in Geordie folklore as he finished his career as Newcastle's all-time leading scorer with 206, surpassing the great Jackie Milburn's record by six goals.

Coming in at second and third in the all-time Premier League top scorers list are former Manchester United striker Andrew Cole and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry who, between them, have scored an incredible 363 goals at the top level of English football.

Cole enjoyed his best years in football during hugely successful spells with Newcastle United and under Sir Alex Ferguson's tutorship at Old Trafford. Out of his grand total of 189 Premier League goals, the former England forward reached a total of 148 with the aforementioned clubs, winning bucket-loads of trophies in six years with the Red Devils.

Arguably the greatest foreign import to have graced the English game, New York Red Bulls striker Henry still has time to improve on his tally of 174 league goals for Arsenal following his loan move back to the Emirates Stadium earlier in the January transfer window.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is next up in the Premier League's '100 club', the Muangthong United front man, now 36, scored 163 league goals during his time with Leeds United, Manchester City and in two spells on Merseyside with the Anfield club.

Purely for alphabetical reasons Les Ferdinand takes up his place in joint fifth, one goal away from the 150 mark. The Tottenham coach notched his 149 with six different clubs including Spurs, Bolton, Leicester City, West Ham, Newcastle United and QPR.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will undoubtedly nudge ahead of the White Hart Lane great, and beyond, before he comes to the end of his career with the England international having reached the 149 mark with his winning goal in the Blues 1-0 victory over Sunderland earlier this month.

Current and former Manchester United strikers in the form of Michael Owen and Teddy Sheringham have amassed 296 Premier League goals between them, with 32-year-old Owen's last league goal coming on the final day of last season during a 4-2 win for the Red Devils against Blackpool.

Wayne Rooney is surely the best-placed player in the '100 club' that looks set to surpass many of those currently above him in the rankings with the Manchester United striker having reached the 130 mark back in December 2011, smashing an effort from distance past Fulham's David Stockdale, at the age of just 26.

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink finished his career with 127 Premier League goals to his name, with his last strike in England's top flight coming against one of his former clubs Middlesbrough, for Charlton in the same season the Addicks were relegated back in 2007.

Robbie Keane, Nicolas Anelka and Dwight Yorke are all in close proximity of each other with Republic of Ireland striker Keane having the potential to pull away during a loan spell at Villa Park while a Premier League return for the, at times, somewhat controversial Anelka can surely not be completely ruled out.

Arsenal great Ian Wright stood tall at the top of the Gunners' top goalscorers charts with 185 - that is until a certain Thierry Henry showed up - and formed an often deadly partnership with Denis Bergkamp at Highbury as the club won the Premier League and FA Cup in 1998.

Former and current Aston Villa front men in the shape of Dion Dublin and Emile Heskey are both on 111, with the ex-Wigan Athletic striker, who has found opportunities hard to come by at Villa Park this campaign, scoring his last Premier League goal against Blackburn last August.

A goal behind Heskey is Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe whose predatory instincts should see him comfortably rise up the charts with his last goal for Spurs coming in the recent defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium where, by his own admission, he may have reached 111 had his legs been that tad longer.

Manchester United team-mates Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs come in next with 210 top-flight goals between them. With the former England international having recently come out of retirement and Welshman Giggs still going strong at 38, there could be a few more yet for the duo that have never seemed to age with time.

And finally, propping up the list, along with new-entrant Bent, is Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier who is one of few to have achieved the feat with just one club and, following the rebranding of the old first division, reached the 102 mark in just 10 years with the Saints.
