REMIER LEAGUE clubs spent over £500million between them on new players last season.
But only some of them lived up to their transfer fees and made a key impact for their clubs.
SunSport picks some of the previous campaign’s best — and worst — signings.
1. VORM
(FEE: £1.5million) SWANSEA unearthed a goalkeeping gem when they picked up Dutchman Michael Vorm.
The penalty-saving expert turned in regular man-of-the-match displays during the Welsh side’s impressive top-flight campaign and his value has now rocketed.
2. ENRIQUE
(FEE: £6million) LIVERPOOL landed the Spaniard for a bargain price and got more than their money’s worth.
Left-back Jose Enrique was a consistent performer at Anfield despite the club’s struggles to make an impression on the top four. Set for a long Anfield stay.
3. JONES
(FEE: £16.5million) MANCHESTER UNITED saw Phil Jones build on the promise he showed at Blackburn during his first season at Old Trafford.
Has the versatility to play across the back four and as a defensive midfielder. He also broke into England’s Euro 2012 squad.
4. FERDINAND
(FEE: £3million) QPR picked up the centre-back after he turned down lucrative offers from abroad to stay in the Premier League.
Anton Ferdinand was a regular during the battle to avoid the dropand is now a contender to be Hoops’ new captain.
5. CLICHY
(FEE: £7million) MANCHESTER CITY snapped him up after he left Arsenal to win trophies — and left-back Gael Clichy lifted the Premier League last season.
Had to fight for his place but has now established himself as one of boss Roberto Mancini’s first-choice players.
6. OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN
(FEE: £11million) ARSENAL invested in a player who had not played in the Premier League.
But Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looked at home in the top flight and earned a Euro 2012 call-up.
7. PARKER
(FEE: £5million) TOTTENHAM picked him up from Championship West Ham and he repaid them by helping to secure a top-four finish.
Scott Parker was handed the England captaincy for a match before Roy Hodgson was appointed and played every game at Euro 2012.
8. CABAYE
(FEE: £4.3million) NEWCASTLE are fighting off other clubs after landing the France international for a bargain price from Lille.
Yohan Cabaye is a classy midfielder who scores spectacular goals. It will take a massive bid to match his value now.
9. McCLEAN
(FEE: £350,000) SUNDERLAND landed one of the bargains of the season when they found the Derry City midfielder.
James McClean scored six goals for the Black Cats and there was huge pressure on Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni to play him at the Euros.
10. YAKUBU
(FEE: £1.5million) BLACKBURN failed to beat the drop but they would have had no chance without Yak’s goals.
He ended up netting 17 times in the Premier League and earned a mega-money move to Guangzhou R&F in China. Could be back in England eventually.
11. AGUERO
(FEE: £35million) MANCHESTER CITY had him to thank for the last-gasp goal that won the league title.
Argentine striker Sergio Aguero delivered right when it mattered most.
A big fee went to Atletico Madrid but it was money well spent for the champions.
Transfer flops
NOT LUK-ING GOOD ... Lukaku has struggled
JOHNSON
(FEE: £7million) THE central defender’s move from rivals Birmingham turned into a disaster.
He was handed the captain’s armband by then-boss Mick McCarthy, but let Wolves down badly when he turned up for training not in a state to play.
His form was patchy as relegation to the Championship followed.
LUKAKU
(FEE: £20million) BELGIAN youngster arrived at Chelsea in August 2011 hailed as a raw striking talent.
Is just two years younger than Mario Balotelli but the Manchester City star has already made an impression.
Lukaku, 19, on the other hand, has made no impact since his move from Anderlecht.
SAVIC
(FEE: £6million) STRUGGLED to adapt to the pace of the Premier League after move from Partizan.
The Montenegro central defender, 21, was billed as a potential star but always looked like a blunder was around the corner.
It will be even tougher to get into the Manchester City team now they have won the title.
