£39m Jovetic & Negredo deals sealed

MANUEL PELLEGRINI flew home to Chile last night while Manchester City splashed out almost £39million on two strikers.

The manager left the club’s training camp in South Africa as his mum is seriously ill.

City hope Pellegrini, 59, will link up with the squad again in Hong Kong on Tuesday — joined by new strike duo Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic.

Assistant boss Brian Kidd said: “Manuel had to go back to Chile. We hope he’ll be in Hong Kong on Tuesday but we’re not sure.

“You want the boss here but his backroom staff were superb.”

Spain international Negredo, 27, was last night having a medical to complete his move from Seville with an initial fee of £16.4m agreed — plus add-ons of up to £4.2m.

City have also struck a deal worth an initial £22.4m with Italians Fiorentina for Jovetic.

The Montenegro international, 23, will jet in today to finalise his move.

Jovetic said: “I’m still young and want a change of scenery.

“City are a very important team in the Premier League.

“I want to win things and I’ll see my great friend Matija Nastasic.”

Kidd took charge of City as they lost to Amazulu.

Bongani Ndulula put the hosts ahead on 20 minutes before James Milner’s equaliser.

But Carlington Nyadombo scored an 89th-minute winner with a penalty after Abdul Razak fouled Marc van Heerden.
