Premier League clubs to use database of Football Manager computer game to help with transfers
A deal struck between the makers of the hit computer game
and performance data analysts Prozone will see top-flight clubs using
their scouts to find player.
Leading Premier League clubs will use the database of computer game
Football Manager to scout for players after the game's creators came to a
landmark agreement with performance analysis firm Prozone.
The agreement – set to be announced on Monday - will see Sports
Interactive's extensive worldwide database of player information
incorporated into Prozone's RECRUITER tool – already used by top clubs
around the world to facilitate player recruitment and analysis.
The database, which forms the basis of the record-breaking management
simulation game, contains 250 pieces of biographical, positional and
contractual information on each of over 550,000 players, managers and
staff around the globe. Amassed by 1300 scouts positioned across six
continents, it will be integrated with Prozone's video and performance
analysis software to help clubs find potential signings.
“For years we’ve heard stories of real-life managers and scouts using
our data to help with the recruitment process,” says Sports Interactive
Studio Director Miles Jacobson. “From now on, it’s official…real
managers around the world will be finding and comparing players using
data and a search system that will be very familiar to players of
Football Manager.”
“The information gathered by our network of more than 1,300 scouts
around the world, combined with Prozone’s amazing performance data,
makes this an invaluable tool for any football club that takes player
recruitment seriously.”
RECRUITER (see pictures) is used by many clubs in addition to
traditional scouting methods to identify targets and then subject them
to detailed analysis.
And Prozone CEO Thomas Schmider believes that combining Sports
Interactive's wealth of data with their product could be a gamechanger
for clubs finding an edge in the transfer market.
“Prozone RECRUITER has been built to supplement the intuition of
scouts and coaches by delivering detailed performance information on
over 80,000 players worldwide.
“It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, instead it’s been designed to
empower clubs to tailor its functionality to suit their own unique
recruitment requirements.”
“The Sports Interactive database is a highly accurate and valuable
resource that will further enhance the recruitment services that we
provide. Complementing our exhaustive technical data and video footage
with excellent biographical, contractual and positional information.”
