Dollah Salleh appointed Malaysia head coach
The
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have today confirmed the
appointment of Dollah Salleh as the new head coach of the Malaysia
national team.
Fresh from leading Premier League side PDRM to
top-flight promotion, the Malacca-born coach, who played for the
national team between 1985 and 1996, was reportedly handed a two-year
contract to replicate his local football success on the international
scene.
A number of local and international figures, including former Japan
manager Philippe Troussier, was linked to the job prior to the
confirmation.
Ong Kim Swee, the outgoing interim head coach who had been looking
after the Harimau Malaya following the departure of K. Rajagopal in
December 2013, gave his support to the appointment.
"Dedicated and with a proven record of success, Dollah Salleh really
deserved to be head coach of the Harimau Malaya. Congratulations and
good luck," Ong tweeted on his official account.
Besides PDRM, Dollah Salleh previously oversaw a treble-winning
Selangor side and Pahang, where he led the Elephants to their first
Malaysia Cup glory since 1992.
One of his first roles with the national team will be to prepare them
for the upcoming 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup, which will be held in Singapore
and Vietnam at the end of the year.
